Legalization of Online Gambling in America

A big step has been made in the United States to legalize online gambling. Organizations are backing this legislation and progress has been made in Congress. The American Gaming Association (AGA) held a hearing last week regarding the issues around protecting online poker players.

They released a statement strongly defending online poker legalization. The hearing was chaired by Representative Mary Bono Mack and some high profile members of the gaming industry gave testimonials. The president and CEO of the AGA Frank J. Fahrenkopf pointed out that poker is different from other type of gambling for a number of reasons.

Poker is strongly rooted in America and also it is first and foremost a game of skill. An important fact is that poker is played against individuals rather than against the house. The AGA also put forward that legalising online poker will create jobs and produce large amounts in revenue.

Many land based casinos are also in favor of the legalization of online gaming. Jim Murren, MGM Resorts Chairman, said that there “is positive momentum in Congress” and that it is time for the “federal government to address this issue.” Murren said that millions of players are currently spending billions of dollars at unregulated websites which clearly shows the need to regulate this business and protect consumers.

It seems the legislation and taxation are ontheir way , it is just a question of time.
